The Angry Charlie V3 packs all the JCM800 chunk and chime into a compact box, giving users a super-realistic Marshall experience without having to lug around a temperamental back-breaking amp.
The original Angry Charlie had four knobs: Volume, Drive, Presence and Tone. While this was a pleasing arrangement, the V3 offers a full three-band EQ. The Volume control acts like a master volume on an amplifier, whereas Drive adds boatloads of British harmonics into the mix. The three-band EQ replaces the master Tone knob as well as the Presence knob and adds much more flexibility.
The EQ is active, which means that all three of these bands are either cut or boosted depending on position. This results in a much more powerful tone shaping experience, static equalizers are incapable of providing such an in-depth sculpture.
Users looking for a rip-roaring full-blown high-gain Marshall-style distortion would be wise to make Charlie very angry—the V3 is one of the finest Marshall-in-a-box pedals on the market.
